WHAT IS ROBBERY?
Under Illinois Law (720 ILCS 5/18 1), a person commits the felony crime of Robbery when they take property, except a motor vehicle covered by Section 18 3 or 18 4, from the person or presence of another by the use of force or by threatening the imminent use of force.
The sentence for Robbery is a Class 2 felony. A Class 2 felony Robbery is punishable by 3 to 7 years in prison. Under certain circumstances, the sentence for a Class 2 felony can be extended to 7 to 14 years in prison. However, if the victim is 60 years of age or over or is physically handicapped, or if the Robbery is committed in a school or place of worship, Robbery is a Class 1 felony. A Class 1 felony Robbery is punishable by 4 to 15 years in prison. Under certain circumstances, the sentence for a Class 1 felony Robbery can be extended to 30 to 60 years in prison. Probation for felony Robbery is available unless not allowed by 730 ILCS 5/5-5-3(c)2. For example, probation is not available for a someone who has committed a Class 2 felony or greater within 10 years.

WHAT IS AGGRVATED ROBBERY?
Under Illinois Law, (720 ILCS 5/18 5), a person commits the felony crime of Aggravated Robbery when they take property from the person or presence of another by the use of force or by threatening the imminent use of force while indicating verbally or by their actions to the victim that they are armed with a firearm or other dangerous weapon, including a knife, club, ax, or bludgeon. Under Illinois Law, the crime will still be considered Aggravated Robbery even if it is later determined that they had no firearm or other dangerous weapon in their possession when they committed the robbery. An example is when someone points a toy gun at someone threatening to shoot the person and takes money or other property from them.
Under Illinois Law, the sentence for Aggravated Robbery is a Class 1 felony. A Class 1 felony Aggravated Robbery is punishable by 4 to 15 years in prison. Under certain circumstances, the sentence for a Class 1 felony can be extended to 15 to 30 years in prison. Probation for an Aggravated Robbery may be an option unless specifically prohibited by 730 ILCS 5/5-5-3(c)2.

WHAT IS ARMED ROBBERY?
Under Illinois Law, (720 ILCS 5/18 2), a person commits the felony crime of Armed Robbery if, while they are committing a Robbery, carry or are armed with a dangerous weapon. The weapon doesn’t have to be a firearm. It has to be a dangerous weapon. A person can be guilty of the felony crime of Armed Robbery if, during the commission of the offense a firearm is discharged and it causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, permanent disfigurement, or death to another person.
Under Illinois Law, the felony crime of Armed Robbery is considered a very serious offense. In Illinois, Armed Robbery is a Class X felony. Under Illinois Law, a Class X felony carries a mandatory prison sentence of 6 to 30 years in prison. Under Illinois Law, probation is not available for a conviction of a Class X felony. Under certain circumstances, a conviction for a Class X felony can carry a prison sentence that can be extended to 30 to 60 years in prison.
